Recent studies have shown that certain nutrients can have a positive effect on the wellness of the visual system. A 2012 report from the Ocular Nutrition Society listed three nutrients that re key to promoting healthy eyes and vision. Antioxidants can slow Age-Related Macular Degeneration by 25% according to a study done by the National Eye Institute. These antioxidants include Vitamin C, E A and Zinc. The three main nutrients that are recommended are:
- Omega 3 fatty acids: Found in fish oils help with dry eye and a healthy macula
- Lutein: Found in dark leafy greens like spinach, kale as well as corn and egg yolk for a healthy macula
- Zeaxanthin: Also found in dark leafy vegetables to help with the health of the macula
